Kamikaze Unbeaten Streak comes to an end

MOF SEASON 6 DIVISION 2
ROUND 8
KAMIKAZE FC vs Philippines FC
23rd Nov 2014
3pm WestSpring Secondary

After going through 7 matches unbeaten, Kamikaze were flying high on confidence. Nonetheless, a rejuvenated Philippines FC and Kamikaze's own defensive frailities might have caused them some concerns, but the warning signs were not heeded. A calamitous first-half performance saw the team go down 3 goals with none in reply.

With all the valour needed to muster an escape job, Kamikaze entered the second half rejuvenated and their efforts bore them rewards as within 10 minutes they were back in the game with 2 goals scored. But terrible refereeing which saw a clear penalty appeal waived off and the match time reduced by 4 minutes for no reason, ensured that there was to be no escape.

Nevertheless, the team will have to take this as a learning lesson. Defence is not a duty of just a select group of players but the entire team, and the team will have to improve its defending if it wants to mount a serious title challenge. The defeat has once again given the impetus to TGXI who will go top if they win their game in hand.

For now, once again, it is back to the drawing blocks for Kamikaze!

Kamikaze go Top of The Table

MOF SEASON 6 DIVISION 2
ROUND 7
FC Genesis vs KAMIKAZE FC
9th Nov 2014
3pm Pierce Secondary

Kamikaze took on their opponents in this clash knowing that a win would see them go top of the table. They took on their opponents with an attacking verve knowing that their opponents' Route one football would hurt them but Kamikaze were determined to prove that their attacking strengths could outweigh the defensive frailities.

In the end it took a Jefri hat-trick, a Safar brace and two wondergoals, one from Yeli and the other from a Gerard freekick to subdue the tenacious opponents who just never give up. Every time, the match looked to be sealed, Genesis kept fighting back and asked all the right questions, but this was a day where the Kamikaze attack was going to take ownership and in the end they just about managed to edge their opponents and go top of the table.

Kamikaze Returns to Winning Ways

MOF SEASON 6 DIVISION 2
ROUND 6
Mak Hitam 95 vs KAMIKAZE FC
2nd Nov 2014
3pm WestSpring Secondary

Mak Hitam had the second longest undefeated streak second only to the famed Happy Feet FC but they had faced their first defeat in a very long time and the Samurais were smelling blood as they knew this would be a good time to catch their opponents vulnerable. Nonetheless KKZ was coming off two back-to-back draws themselves and it set up for a cagey game.

The manager for the day Seelan, played a masterstroke as he put Jefri up leading the attack and the gamble paid off with the physical presence of Jefri causing all sorts of problems for Mak Hitam's defence. Vijay almost scored the fastest goal in KKZ history as his header inside 30 seconds narrowly went past the post, but he was not to be denied at the 13th minute mark, when he rounded off an excellent move involving Jefri and Safar and gave the Samurais a deserved lead.

KKZ soon launched wave after wave of attack, but were in an increasingly wasteful mood as they failed to convert several good chances including a penalty miss. The failure to convert soon bit them back as Mak Hitam, made the pressure count after a quick counterattack that saw their left-winger beat his marker in a rare moment and made it count by chipping over the keeper.

Just when a third consecutive draw looked to be on the cards, up stepped Viki whose set-piece abilities formed part of the reasons on the team breaking boundaries to sign him. When KKZ were awarded a free-kick 40 yards out, Viki immediately stepped up and waved away all other interested parties, such was his confidence. He soon showed that the confidence wasn't misplaced, as he unleashed a curling effort that gave the keeper no chance and ended up at the back of the net.

For the remaining 15 minutes, KKZ had to defend deep to ensure that they gain the vital points and though the eventual win was rather ugly, it was a vital win that saw the team go up to third place, trailing leaders by just 2 points with 3 games in hand. The defence restored confidence after the disappointing performance in the previous game and as history has shown us, attack will win a team games but defence will help to win the league.

2nd Consecutive Draw dents Kamikaze title Hopes

MOF SEASON 6 DIVISION 2
ROUND 5
KAMIKAZE FC vs FC Genesis
19th Oct 2014
5pm Mayflower Secondary

The previous time these two teams met each other it ended up as a 3-1 victory for the Samurais, but it was far from a comfortable win as Genesis kept asking questions with their direct Route 1 football. KKZ went into this match knowing that the long balls will be a problem, but the first 20 minutes of the match put all those worries to bed as they were up 2-0 thanks to a brilliant free-kick from Doctor and a well-headed goal by Jefri Abraham.

However, things went downhill from there as the long-ball tactics from Genesis found the KKZ defence unable to cope with the threat. With the score at 2-2, it looked like they were going into half-time on level terms, when Hevy stepped up to score a brilliant effort to give KKZ the slim advantage.

Yet, being boldened by the success of their direct route, Genesis kept pumping the long balls and found success as they gained an equaliser. Just when the points were looking to be split, Nelson made a great counter pay off as he chipped the Genesis keeper and looked to seal all 3 points. Calamity then struck in the dying seconds as Kamikaze's inability to deal with the incoming corners saw them concede a late equaliser and faced a drawn result that felt like a defeat. With their second consecutive draw, Kamikaze saw themselves drop to 4th place, but with games in hand they still own the aces in their pockets and will approach the subsequent matches with a renewed vigour.
