Update for 23rd Dec - Kamikaze vs Atlético Manjan

Kamikaze entered into their 12th match of the D&D season with much to hope for. The problem of having too few players has become history, and the much-talked about "Friendster-Fiasco" had also came to an amicable end. Thus Kamikaze entered the Admiralty Sec pitch with high hopes of achieving a good result and thus extending the unbeaten streak to the magical number of 10. But did Santa give the KKZ faithful an early Christmas present, or were they left to rue an unforseen result?

Player-manager Haresh opted for a flying wing-back 3-5-2 formation, which eventually proved to be the difference between the two teams. Kamikaze had all the early possession and it was not too long before they made their dominance in midfield count. USPO Suresh sprayed a diagonal ball to the right searching for fellow Aussieboy Hari who didn't need a second invitation in taking a first time cross. The ball was hit with such ferocity that Atlético Manjan's keeper was only able to parry it away. However, VS Dinesh, playing in his preferred forward role was there to tap it in home and open Kamikaze's account for the day. Kamikaze's newly acquired habit of scoring early goals, had obviously continued.

From then on, it was largely one-way traffic as Kamikaze looked to double their lead. Stand-in keeper Nayee was virtually a bystander as Kamikaze was doing all the attacking. Shots from USPO, Hari and Haresh all came close, but the scoreline stood as it was. But it wasn't too long before Kamikaze struck again. This time, Prem shot a cracker from just outside the box. The keeper managed to save it, but couldn't stop it from rolling into the path of Dinesh who gleefully tapped in for his brace.

However, the scoreline had induced a monotony in the play, and the game became scrappier towards the end of the half. Atlético Manjan had a few half-chances to take, but Kamikaze still headed for the dressing room with a two-goal cushion.

The halftime talk revolved around two things: The need to improve the style of play that had deteriorated, and the comments by one of the Atlético players who had passingly said that Kamikaze was not as good as some of their previous opponents.

As the games for the D&D season go by, it can be seen that KKZ are playing with a never-before-seen maturity and sense of unity. Each game and each tackle was being won with pride and loyalty for the KKZ badge. And that spirit was epitomised in the second half as Sivabalan, Neshta, Vinod, and USPO Suresh all put in crunching tackles to win every single ball in a bid to maintain the clean sheet. So much so, that co-keepers Habib and Nayee had virtually nothing to do besides taking goalkicks.

And across the run-of-play, comeback kid Barathi struck. Barathi, who was dazzling in his dribbling throughout the game shook off two defenders before shooting cleverly to beat the keeper in the near post. 3-0 to KKZ.

As the fire in the opponents was fizzling off, KKZ looked to kill the game and they did so, when Yasin shimmied past two defender and shot from just inside the box to leave the keeper rooted to the ground. The game was all but over now...

But like I always say... The soccer gods had other ideas. It was after all the Christmas season, and the season of giving. There was a player in the ranks of KKZ who was on a hat-trick trail. And he was just about to get it. Barathi made another dazzling run through the flank and earned a well-deserved penalty when he was fouled inside the box. There was no doubt on who was to take the kick. VS Dinesh stepped up and coolly placed the ball dead centre to earn a much-cherished hat-trick. The KKZ faithful congratulates him and hopes for more from him. 5-0 it was, and that was how it ended.

Overall, it was a very satisfying game for Kamikaze as they performed in all areas of the pitch. They might not be the best team that Atlético had faced, but they will most surely be oone of the dreaded.

Also, Santa had delivered the much awaited gift of "Double-digit number of unbeaten matches". As a bonus he had also thrown in a hat-trick to VS Dinesh. Vinod from Eastboys also received an early Christmas gift, when he was adjudged to have been the man-of-the-match by the Editor. While, the entire team had put in sterling performances, Vinod won the award for this week for playing a brave and tireless game. He put in several tackles and was willing to run up and down, and as such the Editor has used his discretion to present him as the man-of-the-match. Special commendation is also given to Barathi for a sparkling display. The KKZ faithful expects far more from the twinkle-toed wonder and expects him to turn up for matches with more regularity.

A streak of 10 matches unbeaten achieved. This is not the end. It is just the beginning. This is where style meets passion on the pitch, to achieve glory.

Kamikaze!!!

Update for Match VS FC Mat

Venue : Regent Sec

Time : 1pm

Score : Kamikaze 6 Mat FC 3

After a marvellous game at Gan Eng Seng which witnessed an amazing 4-4 comeback scoreline, Kamikaze's mental/physical toughness was put to test again as they faced a Mat team in the early afternoon fixture at Choa Chu Kang. Kamikaze were without their inspirational manager Haresh and Captain Achu, Nayee, Francis, Uspo, Faizal and Barathi who were unable to make it due to commitments. Thus Co-captain Nash took over the reins and rode Kamikaze to another victory, this stretching to a 9 game winning streak. Sivabalan, who took a long break from club duty, joined back into the squad and everyone was delighted to have him back.

Mat FC had a lack of communication and only fielded 10 men as 2 of their players were not contactable and they were at a losing end. Even though with the man shortage, Kamikaze played according to position and strategy never losing focus and this was an applaudable act.
Kamikaze's attacking mentality from the day before continued and within a matter of minutes, Kamikaze opened the scoring thru Habib who placed his shot to the keeper's left, after latching on to a Hevy pass. The combo of Hevy and Habib proved venomous as the banged in a total of 8 goals in the 2 matches they featured. The second goal displayed their level of communication as they opened the defence with Hevy's slick dribbling and a 1-2 pass from Habib left the keeper in no man's land and Hevy to pop home the 2nd goal. Kamikaze attacked more agressively with Spaceship and Ghazali tantalising their side- backs throught the whole game. Hari and Gerard were magnificent in their long-balls and unlocked the opponents easily.Habib then netted the 3rd goal in similiar fashion, pouncing on to a ball handled weakly by the keeper from a Hevy stinger and tapped home. The opponents were clearly fatigued and disorganised and were praying for the half time whistle, but if the Soccer God mentioned earlier existed, he sure was not on the Mat Fc's side as Hevy showed what a predator really is by dribbling 3 defenders with spear-like velocity and coolly finishing to end the half with Kamikaze leading 4-0. The players went in happy and the feeling of mission accomplished.

The 2nd Half as always proved to be a set-back for kamikaze. The 2 players, whom were nt present for Mat FC came in the 2nd half and turned out to be U-21 young lions. That changed the game a bit as our defence was put to the sword 3 times and all 3 were miscommunications. Kamikaze were caught off-guard and needed to get back on feet to kill off the opponents game and morale. Kamikaze tried from set-pieces, wing-play and even the predator was firing blanks as he was heavily marked and the goal-keeper sudenly seemed to have found his golden gloves. The opponents then resorted to dirty tactics as they launched bone-jarring tackles which fired up the emotions. Things came to a boil when Prem was unsportmanly hacked down by their centre back, and although it was his 2nd yellow card offence, the referee proved that he and Graham Poll had something in common by not sending him off and carding Haravin for protesting. Just wen things were horrid, Ghazali surged forward with the ball, used Spaceship as a decoy and beat the keeper at his near post for the 5th Kamikaze goal. The opponents had their hands in their faces and tried to play a 6 man defence, but a resilient Habib pressured like mad and won a Manjan Dinesh through ball to shoot at the keeper. He fumbled it and it was rolling into goal with Ganesh running behind it to make sure it ended up there. A jubliant Habib got his Hat-Trick and Kamikaze got their well deserved victory and an even better weekend with back to back wins. Congrats to the guys and a warm welcome to Sivabalan, a lion back into the pack
of ferocious ones! Our left-back Jayraj will be out for approximately 4-6 mths due to injury and let us wish for a speedy return for him. Aideos

Update for 1st Dec - Kamikaze vs Nitroz FC

After a break of nearly 4 weeks, to celebrate the festive season, Kamikaze were back on the footballing trail with two back-to-back matches fixed.

The first of it was played against Nitroz FC at the old homeground, Gan Eng Seng Sec. Mixed feelings of nostalgia and weariness filled the hearts of Kamikaze, as this was the first match in a long long time to be played without a referee and the players knew it was gonna be hard to adapt.

Hard it was, as within 3 minutes of the kickoff, Nitroz wonderkid Ameer dribbled past 3 Kamikaze players, who were not sure whether to pull the offside trap or defend deep, to open the scoring. However, the goal did not daunt KKZ, as they played with their heads still held high. And the attitude paid off, as Seelan swept in a tantalising corner that was met by a sublime volley by KKZ's very own wonderkid Haravin. Scores were level, and a great game looked to be in the cards.

Great game it was, but not for KKZ. Within the next 20 mins, Nitroz put 3 past KKZ and shock began to engulf the Kamikaze faithful. To their credit, Kamikaze attacked with all that they had. But a combination of bad finishing and frantic defending by Nitroz ensured that Nitroz headed to the break with a comfortable 4-1 lead.

Past perfomances showed that KKZ has a major problem with improving their performances in the second half. On top of that they were facing a 3-goal deficit. And to make the matters worse, the goalmouth that they were attacking was muddy and battered after just a half's play, which meant that it can only get worse. The signs looked obvious. Kamikaze were headed to their first defeat in 8 games.

But... Like i always say... The soccer gods had other ideas. A morale-lifting team-talk, by Haresh, a change in tactics to play 4 defenders back and a self-belief in the hearts of the players made sure that the second half was a different game.

Kamikaze attacked from the word go, and won every single challenge. A free-kick taken by Nayee, at the edge of the box saw him missing the target narrowly. But it was not too long before KKZ pulled one back. Habib controlled a pass and knocked it on to Havey, who didnt have to think twice to unleash a shot that comprehensively beat the keeper and burst into the nets. The score was 2-4 to KKZ's disadvantage, but the momentum was clearly on their sides.

Nayee played in what was one of his better games and he made the performance count as he picked Habib out with a delicately passed through-ball. Habib made no mistake from the 6-yard box as he toe-poked the shot into goal. The score was 3-4, but KKZ were already looking forward to win it.

Maybe that was the mistake, as the game took a dour tone after that. Plays became scrappy and Nitroz attacked with more vigour. They could have even managed a goal, if not for some excellent defending by Haravin, Achu and Nash. Haravin in particular was praised for his never-say-die spirit and was touted as definitely a player to watch in future games. The KKZ faithful hopes that he blossoms into a more matured player as the potential is undeniable.

However, as the clock read that only 10 mins were left, KKZ sprung into action. They were determined not to let their unbeaten streak end and launched into wave after wave of trademark Kamikaze attacks. Anand Spaceship, Haresh and Havey all had a wealth of chances, but could not convert. Just when it looked like it wasn't goin to be Kamikaze's day, a stroke of magic turned it all.

Havey took a throughpass from Haresh on the left flank and proceeded to silkily dribble past 3 defenders before smashing a venomous shot, to double his goal tally and grab Kamikaze's equaliser. The equaliser dampened Nitroz' morale and Kamikaze could have even snatched a late winner, but they just couldnt convert. In the end, the game ended to become Kamikaze's first draw, in the D&D era. But it sure will rank as a memorable one.

There were several positives that could be taken from the game. The first being the spirit and composure that the team showed even when they were down by 3 goals. Nayee's improved performance that won him the man-of-the-match award was also welcomed by the team. Kamikaze's depth of talent was also revealed as they played this game without Midfield dynamo Gerard and solid Centreback Francis. However, the one lesson that Kamikaze should learn is to keep their focus for the entire duration of the game. Focus is the new mantra of Kamikaze, and watch this space to see it unfold..

Kamikaze!!!

Update for 3rd Nov - Kamikaze vs Refugees FC

Hi everybody. Sorry for the delay in updating the blog. The Management and the Editorial team took a deserved break for the Deepavali season, and we are now back. Firstly, KKZ would like to wish all of you out there Belated Happy Deepavali Wishes. We would also like to wish, former Captain Sivabalan a belated Happy 24th Birthday. Time to stop studying bro!

Now for the update of the match on 3rd Nov. Kamikaze was playing at St Wilfrids against a highly-rated Refugees FC. KKZ were inspired by the overwhelming attendance which saw 17 KKZ players turn out for the match, including fellow Aussie boy USPO Suresh who returned on holidays. However, the pressure of keeping alive the 6-match winning streak, plus the memories of the loss they faced at St Wilifrids the last time round and the prospect of facing a tough team might have been too hard for the team to handle. Furthermore, KKZ were still without a full-time keeper and player-manager Haresh was also sidelined due to working commitments.

Nonetheless, KKZ could not have wished for a better start, when in the 4th min, Wonderkid Ghaz put them ahead. Hotshot striker Vicky latched on to a delightfully played throughball on the left wing by Anand Spaceship. Vicky then proceeded to round a defender, before curling in a cross into the box. The Refugees' rightback managed to intercept the cross, but his attempted backpass was niftly stolen by Ghaz who did well to place the ball past the oncoming keeper. KKZ up by 1-0.

Nayee, who was red-carded in the previous match, substituted Habib as keeper, only to have wished that he didn't. He failed to collect a ball, that resulted in a corner kick. He again fluffed at the corner that resulted in a subsequent corner. It was third time lucky for the Refugees as their midfielder curled a ball that saw Nayee being stranded and watching the ball float in. Scores tied at 1 a piece.

However, KKZ were determined to go into the break with a lead and their efforts paid off just before the half-time whistle. Habib who was reintroduced into the field as striker, shaked off two defenders to meet with Prem's chipped through ball. He sent the KKZ faithful into delirium as he coolly chipped the ball over the Refugees' keeper. Kamikaze were leading 2-1 and that was how the half ended.

The second half saw the Refugees gaining more control of the match and taking more shots at goal. Good keeping from Nayee saw that the score line remained with KKZ in the lead. However, that was to change as Nayee conceded a very soft goal to let the Refugees equalise. A half-hearted strike from the Refugees' striker saw the ball rolling under the body of Nayee and just into the net. The game was once again even and both teams had everything to play for.

KKZ threw everything they had, and the substitutions flew in fast and furious. Both teams had several chances to score but neither capitalised on their chances. With 5 mins to go, Nayee stepped up to substitute Vicky. It was a last ditch effort from KKZ to preserve their winning streak. And preserve it, they did. Anand Spaceship floated in a teasing cross from the left side. Nayee timed his diagonal run perfectly to beat the offside trap, and with the flag staying down, he lifted the ball above the keeper and into the net. Villain Nayee turned Hero and sent the KKZ into pandemonium. The Refugees were deflated and KKZ even had a chance to increase their lead, but Dinesh Manjan could not finish cleanly.

In the end, it was KKZ who prevailed, and their unbeaten streak stretched to 7 with another hard-fought victory. All-in-all it was a match to remember. The man of the match was voted to be USPO Suresh who had a sterling game in defence on the first match of his return.

Discipline Matters

Guys, this is a housekeeping notice from the KKZ management.

First things first. All annoying, rude and crude comments in the comment box have to CEASE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. It is funny at first, but as it goes on, it becomes tasteless, rude and downright disgusting. So whoever is doing it, the management wants you to stop it with immediate effect. Take your jokes/fun/hijacking to our Friendster page, and not here. We will be tracking the blog for the next 2 weeks. Failure to comply with this notice, will result in the management taking out the comment box. Then, no one will be able to send comments. So if you think you are funny, and are enjoying yourself, by all means go ahead. But you are just causing inconvenience, to the the rest of the loyal, dedicated KKZ faithful. And if you are found out, you WILL face the consequences, which could include suspension from games. The management has taken a very serious view about this issue. Take this as a last chance, if not a last warning. If you have done it before, stop! If you haven't don't start. For those who have no idea, what this is about, continue your ignorance. What you do not know, will not kill you.

Secondly, match attendance. Ok guys, we know several players have very tight commitments like camp and work. We also have a unfortunate injury rate. But, in any case, given our depth, and our loaning system, we should not be faced with a situation where only 9 players are available to start. Cmon guys, it might seem dramatic to be written in a blog, but in actual case it is a shame. The only excuse that can be accepted with 2 closed eyes is that you were not informed. But even that is not going to be valid from now on. The onus is on the individual to call and check whether games have been scheduled for the weekend. If you can't make it for that week, with a valid reason, Call ahead and tell. Players who are absent without informing or without valid reasons, such as getting drunk the night before, will face severe consequences. As said before, this can include suspension and in repeated cases can include expulsion also. So to avoid all these unnecessary mess, just call on the Thursday or Friday to check whether there is a game, and inform if you are unable to make it.

I'm sorry guys, if you feel the pinch in this post. But this is part of the scenario under the
Revival era too. Everyone hates being thrown the book at, but the management hates throwing the discipline book at you too. We aim to become a well established club that is amateur in status but professional in its dealings. And all this small issues makes a huge difference. Guys Kamikaze is a team made up of spirited individuals. You have to understand that it is the spirit that makes Kamikaze different from the other teams out there. Each one of you matters a huge lot, but always remember one thing: NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE TEAM! There is no superstar in this team so far, WE ALL ARE STARS. And the management hopes that the correct attitude towards soccer prevails. But the management is flexible. They do not interfere in what you do outside the pitch; in return you guys just take care of ALL these small issues.

Ok, on a much lighter note, Deepavali is coming. And Kamikaze management, would like to propose a night tour to the "Indian hometown of Singapore: Tekka". All those interested please notify Naaye or Jayaseelan. Lets enjoy the festive spirit boys.. Possibly with some 'festive spirits'.. Manjo, are you reading?

KAMIKAZE!!!

Update for 27th Oct - Kamikaze vs Vietnam FC

It was reported that Kamikaze faced a crisis before the match on 20th Oct. That crisis would have been considered a minor blip when compared to what Kamikaze FC faced before kickoff on 27 Oct. Besides player-manager Haresh being still unavailable due to long-term ankle injury, Kamikaze faced the absence of atleast 5 other first team players including Co-captain Achu (study-leave), influential winger Barathi,(hamstring pull), midfield anchorman Jayaseelan, keeper Manoj, and midfield maestro Faizal (both work). Kamikaze also missed rising star Vicky, and tricky midfielder Ghaz. The unforseen absence coupled with Prem's delayed arrival meant that Kamikaze only had 9 players to start with. As if that was not enough, the opponents were none other than the much-feared Vietnam FC. Fast, aggressive and cunning, they were sure to make their numerical superiority count and punish Kamikaze ruthlessly.

The first 10 mins played according to the script, as Vietnam FC attacked incessantly and found their reward when a speculative shot beat stand-in keeper Jayaraj too easily. Score was 1-0 to Kamikaze's disadvantage and led to one of the Vietnam FC players to comment that they could win the game by 10-0. Was Nayee's pre-match warning to preserve the winning streak gonna backfire? Were Kamikaze gonna be humiliated. Well, for once Nayee wasn't doing any favours, as he found himself continuously outmarked and failed to get to the end of a few good half-chances.. But like i always say... The Soccer Gods Had Other Ideas.

Prem made his arrival, and together with Vicky of Kawabunga fame they made sure that the numerical weakness was corrected. It was once again 11 on 11. And Kamikaze were out to play the game they had on their hands. Wave after wave of Kamikaze attacks soared, and before long a defensive clearance found its way to Nayee, who made his only meaningful contribution by playing a diagonal ball to Aussieboy Hari. Hari who had what could arguably be his best game in Kamikaze colours, wowed the crowd by beating 2 opponents, before chipping a delightfully weighted through-ball.. Vinnie raced to the ball, beating the offside trap, latched onto it and chipped the oncoming keeper to score Kamikaze's equaliser and his second of the D&D list. Game level, and floodgates opened.

Kamikaze played with the panache and swashbuckling style that they have often been associated with. Nayee swapped with Jayaraj as keeper and Jayaraj's pace upfront was soon to play a part. With the Vietnamese focusing on Jayaraj's pace threat, Anand Spaceship found himself some space on the left wing. And he was to make full use of it, by brilliantly cutting 3 defenders and slotting the ball calmly past the keeper. Even a late intervention by the Vietnamese defender, could not stop Anand from gleefully running to celebrate with Haresh, on what was his FIRST EVER GOAL FOR KKZ IN 2 YEARS!! Vietnam Fc had a few chances of their own, but some smart keeping from Nayee prevented them from scoring. Even when he made a silly error by passing straight to an opponent player, the danger was averted by slick defending from Nash, and KKZ headed into the dressing room with the lead.

The half-time talk revolved around the 10-0 proclamation and KKZ vowed to leave a lasting impression on their not-so-modest opponents.

But, once again fate was working against them. First Vinnie suffered cramps, but managed to come back into play, as there were no substitutes. Then, the most controversial event of the afternoon transpired. Nayee, who was already having a lacklustre afternoon just had a more miserable day, as the referee whistled for play to stop and ran towards him, signalling an off-the ball incident. The opponents, who had been taunting KKZ the whole day with their weird dog-like noises and shoves, had one more trick up their sleeve. Their defender had been tugging Nayee's jersey and in an attempt to get free, Nayee retaliated with an elbow to the face of the defender. The referee who spotted it, had no hesitation in showing a straight red-card to Nayee. A distraught Nayee left the field, as Vinnie fell to the ground simultaneously, unable to continue due to his cramps. Kamikaze were leading 2-1, but were once again having a 2-man disadvantage.

Vietnam, seized the opportunity, launched attack after attack and were gaining control of the game. But Kamikaze's attitude could not be faulted. The defence stood firm and everyone played their part in preserving the lead. The never-say-die attitude paid off, as Kamikaze got a free kick at the edge of the box on the left side of the field. Hari who was sterling in midfield stepped up to curl in a magical freekick past the hapless Vietnam keeper who could only watch the ball sail past him and into the net. 9-man Kamikaze were leading 3-1.

The Vietnamese managed a late consolation goal. However the Kamikaze spirit never wavered. In a attempt to preserve the lead, the valiant Jayaseelan summoned King Kong-like bravery and kitted out into the field. Though he was limping all the way, he managed to put in a few tackles and would have also managed a goal, if his chip hadn't strayed a few centimetres wide.

All in all, this was a game that was not for the faint-hearted. Any lesser team might have crumbled in the face of such adversity. The pressure mounting from the start of the game to preserve their 5-match winning streak might have been too tough for any other team. But not for Kamikaze, who stretched their lead to 6 matches, and gave a performance to remember for a very long time. Hari was rightly chosen as the man-of-the-match for a display that earned him plaudits from several quarters, including the match referee. Kamikaze, unbeaten in 6 and still moving on. With the blessings, of the Soccer Gods.

Kamikaze VS Manjan FC

Kamikaze entered their dressing room with crisis lingering in the air as they prepared to face a rejuvenated Manjan FC whom they trashed 4-2 on 8th Sep. The morale was certainly not the finest in this game and KKZ had the odds stacked against them as they were missing influential key players such as Haresh, Gerard, Manoj, Nayee, Francis and Captain Achu. Nevertheless, these are the times where each n every player has to dig down deep into his soul and rekindle the Kamikaze spirit and thatz exactly what they did on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. The return of Hari & Ghazali in DM, motivation instilled by Seelan & Barathi, all-out attitude by forward Vicky, sheer determination of Dinesh, second to none display from Suresh & Ismail capped of with a wonderful and excellent performance by the co-capt Nash who had his 1st game in charge today propelled KKZ to a 7-2 win on home turf.

KKZ got the ball rolling and Nash decided to go with a 3-6-1 due to the lack of defenders as Jayaraj stood in goal for the absent Manjo. The 1st goal of the game came through a swift n lethal KKZ attack ritual. Seelan, picking out a pass from Ismail, played Dinesh on with a splitter through pass and he put KKZ in the lead by placing the ball into the bottom-right corner. After a long term injury, Dinesh performed more than expected of him and the goal clearly showed his hard work. KKZ were'nt about to sit back on a 1-goal lead and pushed on. This time a corner, floated in resulted in a goal-mouth scramble, and Ismail popped up in the right place to fire home a volley in off the upright from 8 yrds out. 2-0 up and looking comfortable as KKZ played possession football before hitting the 3rd nail in the coffin through a woderfully taken solo goal. Ghazali, on the left wing, took the ball past 4 defenders on the left byline and without even cutting in, hit the ball on his outer foot to leave the opponent goalkeeper flat-footed and wishing he stayed at home. Great goal and well worth the wait as KKZ moved into the 3-0 lead and looking hungry for more. The opponents really got restless and silly fouls were commited to distrupt our play. But we stuck to our gameplan and the next wave of attack showed clearly the missing strike partner that Nayee needed through this goal from Vicky. KKZ played one touch football and kept possession trying to pry open the opponent defence who had 6 men in their penalty box. Barathi with his twinkle toe dribbling, dribbled the ball all the way from the right to the centre before eventually playing Vinnie onside with a through pass whom in turn, played a diagonal ball into the penalty area which was packed with opponent defenders. Vicky, ghosted in behind the last man, and tapped in for the fourth leaving the skipper surprised as he was already in the process of clearing the ball. With 2 goals in 3 games, Vicky looks the perfect candidate to play alongside naayee and KKZ faithfuls are already relishing the prospect. Just when we thought that the half was over, Aussie-boy Hari had to do something magical, like he always does, by aiding in another goal. Hari, dispossesed the opponent attack and ran out from his DM position before hitting a venomous shot on goal. The goalkeeper had no choice but to get down to parry it, and it fell into the path of the oncoming Faizal, who tapped home the 5th goal before wheeling away into the fans as the half-time whistle went. With real-fire in the boots of every player, KKZ had a feeling of mission accomplished as they entered the half-time team talk. Prem, who initially was our sub, changed his mind and slipped on a white opponent jersey to help them out from their woeful performance.

In the 2nd half, KKZ forgot the golden words said by Achu, "Do not slack after half -time because thatz where everything goes wrong" and did exactly that. Everybody just switched off and the opponents, havin prem as their last man decided to bring the game to us and atacked relentlessly. KKZ fell short as 2 unnecessary goals were conceded and robbed Suresh and Jayraj of their clean sheet. Suresh subbed Jayraj as goalkeeper and Faizal moved into defence for the whole of the 2nd half. A furious Nash, blasted the whole team on the field to buck up and he was not going to handle this kind of lacklusture attitude. Once again, kamikaze got of the backfoot and slowly started to dominate again. The 6th goal that killed off all possible motivation and idea of a comeback came through Dinesh who got on the scoresheet again. KKZ won a corner and Ismail floated in a corner and the height was the only thing that stopped vinnie from heading it into the back of the net, skided of the back of his head only to be met with a bullet of a header from Dinesh. He would be looking back at that moment and smiling at his effort. The game took a monotonous tone after that and it was all touches and passes to keep possession until Jayraj subbed Hari. Seelan, hit a low pass to ghazali and he dribbled on the right again but this time no wonder goal but instead floated in a cross into the box. A defender's feeble to head clear the ball resulted in an unmarked Jayraj moving on from the far post to score from his first touch as a sub. Long time coming, he finally got on the scoresheet and that with the look on the opponent's faces summed up the game with KKZ extending their winning streak to 5. A proud manager, Haresh congratulated all the players for putting up such a performance even in the absence of key players and this reflected on kamikaze as being a versatile team.

Flash Update

Hi guys, as the Editor, it is my responsibility to disseminate info to the KKZ faithful and also give you guys a platform to air your views. Events over the past couple of days, have required me to write the 3rd post in this week. Such is the hype surrounding Kamikaze's latest move.

Now it was previously reported, that Kamikaze had a change in captaincy, with Neshta Nash taking over from Achu Anand. The backlash that the news created was significant enough to cause a reverse from the decision. Firstly, several players felt that Achu had done the captaincy proud and that he should stay on as captain. But the second was of more significance and also one to warm the heart. Incoming captain Neshta, made a shock announcement on 9 Oct, that he would decline the captaincy. He felt, that Achu was Kamikaze's fort leader and it was simply not right, to accept the captaincy from him, when he was still at the peak of his career.

This news, sent the management team to rethink their moves, and after hearing all inputs, they made a new decision. Achu will remain as Captain. Neshta will still be promoted to Captain. Yes guys, you read it right. Kamikaze, will possibly be the first team, to have this novel arrangement, that we would like to refer as Co-Captaincy. Two captains, serving Two different aspects, all fighting for the success of One Great Team.

Achu with his tactical nous will serve the Manager with his inputs on team issues and strategies. He will help in deciding team formations and player positions. Neshta, a naturally determined player, will be the motivator for the team. He will be the guy, that the younger ones and anyone for that matter will approach to, for advice, guidance and motivation. He will have a heavy responsibility in providing the voice in the pitch, the motivation during games. This delegation in duties, is not a be-all-end-all situation. It is merely a guideline. The captains will work amongst themselves to continue the success of this Era, that we have termed The Revival. The team will offer both captains, all the support that is needed.

Enough said, May we wish all the Best to Kamikaze.

On a sidenote guys, the comment box here, is for you to give an honest feedback about how you feel about Kamikaze. It is the Management's wish that you comment earnestly, but please be dignified, and maintain the professionalism as a Kamikaze player. Please refrain from using this blog as a platform for pranks. This is a friendly warning.

The beginning of a New Era...

Kamikaze's short history can be divided into three main groups. The first of it will begin in the days where we waited in the pitches of Gan Eng Seng Sec, and Commonwealth to share the field with several other opponents. We played without referees, we played without having to pay money every weekend and we also played amateurishly, but still excitingly, like we always do. We were then led by our former Captain, Bouncer Siva. The thought of Sivabalan, explaining tactics using dried twigs, still brings a nostalgic chuckle to many of our minds. That was our Amateur Era, under the stewardship of Captain Balan.

Then came our foray into the McNair Rovers league. A revamped team, a league to play for and we needed a change in leadership. And one man stepped forward. Our current Captain, Achu Anand. A no-nonsense tackler, he still has many admirers of his elegant defensive play. Whatever nuances he lacked off the pitch, he made up for it more than enough on the pitch with his 101% perfomances. His captaincy coincided with a very tough time for Kamikaze. Results were not going our way in the league, player turnover was high and morale was low. However through it all, he managed to keep his performance level high, and gained the players' admiration for his all-round playing ability. That was our Professional Era, under the stewardship of Captain Achu Anand.

Every organization needs a change, and that was what Kamikaze needed as well. That led to the beginning of our current Era. The Era that i would refer to as the Revival. This Revival, refers to all aspects of KKZ. Our playing style, the players we have, (only the die-hards) and our overall management style. This Era will last, atleast till the D&D day. Whether, we will see a new Era then, can only be answered then. But as far as the Revival is concerned, it is here, and Kamikaze will be all out to right all the wrongs, and better the positives. As such, a rotation in leadership is needed as well. Achu has taken the team as far as he could as captain, and he will now concentrate in not only giving his 101% in the playing field, but also motivating the younger ones to improve on their defending techniques.

And now i take great pleasure, and honour in announcing our new captain, who is none other than Neshta Nash. Nash has consistently proven to be the backbone of Kamikaze. He is a defender in the mould of the greats like Terry, Vidic, and yes his idol Nesta. His die-hard attitude and passion for soccer, makes him a worthy man to become only the 3rd Captain, in KKZ history. The KKZ faithful, have huge expectations, and they want to be shown proof that Nash is the correct man to lead them into this new Era. But rest assured, for the man will walk his talk wearing his soccer boots, on the football pitch. But that doesn't mean he has do it alone. Every player in KKZ is a leader, and every single one of you is as important as any other. It is the players who determine our Glory at the end of the day. But Nash will be there guiding us, all the way. And here we have it people, Our Revival Era, under the stewardship of Captain Neshta Nash.

On a more lighter note, the Editor would also like to remind the KKZ faithful, that the 10th of October, will be a day of double celebration, as our keeper Manjo and our midfield maestro Faizal will be celebrating their 22nd and 21st Birthdays, respectively. Do extend your best wishes to two of our very own.

Update for 7 Oct (Kamikaze vs Stallionz)

The 2-1 win on 29 Sep, meant that Kamikaze had overcome their early season jitters to embark on a 3-game consecutive winning spree. But will it last or will it come to an end? To get the answer, they hosted the Stallionz at the Northview Sec pitch on a cool Sunday morning on 7 Oct.

For the second week in a row, the opponents were kitted up and ready to go, even before half the Kamikaze team had set foot onto the pitch. (Guys, take the hint) But the moment, Kamikaze got ready, there was an air of confidence that the team had felt. They were facing an all-Indian team after pretty long, and KKZ was focused on getting a good result against their equally illustrious opponents, who had also been recently been featured in The New Paper. The absence of Captain Achu through illness, and Player-Manager Haresh Diego through injury had been softened by the return of the combative hatchman, JayrajBullah. Kamikaze were all set and ready to go.

The early part of the game saw Kamikaze swarming the opponents' half, but lack of killer passes and killer touches, meant that they had no goals to show for their dominance. But that was to change in a swift moment of counter-attacking football. Nayee, found the ball somewhere near Kamikaze's half and ran straight at the Stallionz defence, beating a player before squaring to teenage sensation Haravin. Haravin made no mistake in finding the energetic Vicky, who showed a moment of brilliance by beating two defenders at the edge of the penalty box, and a moment of unselfishness when he squared the ball to an unmarked Nayee. Nayee made no mistake from the 6-yard box as he crashed a shot into the goal off the crossbar. Kamikaze were up 1-0.

The half ended pretty evenly, and the theme of the half-time talk was yet again the same. Go out there and kill the game.

For a moment, it was a bad case of deja vu, as the opponents began the second half purposefully. The addition of one of their star players, Nantha added a zest into their play. They attacked and crossed with will and it looked as if Kamikaze's defence would be breached. But like i always say, the soccer gods had other ideas.

The Kamikaze defence, and Keeper Manjo stood firm against wave after wave of attacks, and against the run of play, Barathi played the ball directly to the legs of Faizal, who was running on the left flank. Faizal, showed his class by cutting past two defenders before he was felled unfairly, inside the penalty box. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Nayee stepped up confidently to tuck the penalty firmly into the bottom right hand corner, to earn his brace and set Kamikaze firmly for a win.

The lead gave Kamikaze the sort of aura, that typifies their spirit. They played with such vigour and energy that had their injured player-manager enjoying himself by the touchlines. Kamikaze launched onto their attacking mode, and produced yet another moment of magic.

Barathi who so far, had a forgettable game, showed incredible skill to beat 3 defenders on the right flank, before graciously squaring the ball to youngster Satheesh, who made no mistake to earn his first goal for KKZ. The Stallionz earned a late consolation goal, to spoil Manoj's clean sheet, but KKZ were the happier lot. A good game, that was heartwarming for the KKZ faithful. Nash was chosen as Man-Of-the-Match for producing yet another sterling display in the defence. The team had responded well to the challenge thrown down to them, and now the next question is. Can they maintain it? Watch this space.

Update for 29th Sep

After the 4-1 win on 8th Sep, Kamikaze hadnt played for 3 weeks, due to scheduling difficulties and bad weather. Hence, the boys were itching to play on 29th Sep, when KKZ hosted another Unnamed team at the NorthView Sec pitch. The opponents were early and warming up by the time, half the KKZ team entered the field, and initial observations showed them to be a tough team to play. There was some hesitation and lacklustreness within the team fold, and to add to their problems, KKZ were without all 3 of their keepers. They eventually had to settle with Nayee starting in goal, albeit nervously. These turn of events had punters overwhelmingly favouring the visiting opponents. However, the soccer Gods had other ideas.

Within minutes of Kickoff, KKZ had scored what was arguably the fastest goal in their 3-yr history. Barathi cut in from the right flank before crossing in a quick one across the goal mouth. Haresh was the first to be in the right place, ghosting in past the defenders to open the score at the far post.

The second goal did not take too long to arrive. Gerard picked up new-signing Vicky with an exquisitely played diagonal ball, and the new player showed the KKZ faithful just what he was capable of. One touch to kill the ball, and another to slam past the hapless keeper, had KKZ doubling their lead. As with most of our new-signings, Vicky had a memorable debut, scoring a goal and showing exciting presence. Defensive stalwart Nash later remarked, "Now, that's the kinda striker that we need". The KKZ faithful will be hoping that Vicky builds on his good start.

However, that was where the positives of the game ended. Stand-in keeper Nayee wasn't troubled in the first half except for one instance where he had to rush out to make a safe, via his legs. However, the passing was scrappy and the tempo of the play had taken a draggy monotone. As always, the lead had taken a dour slant over the proceedings.

The second half was expected to be better, but that didnt materialise. Kamikaze couldnt add to their goal tally, and even conceded a late consolation goal. Captain Achu later made it clear that the habit of scoring two, three early goals, only to play scrappy football later had to stop. The players listened, and have taken it upon themselves to rectify the problem.

Overall, each player did their part and again the man of the match wasn't chosen after the match. I was advised to include a poll, but i'm lazy. (Oops) However, i have used my analytical editor's discretion and have decided to choose Francis POW as the man of the match. Rarely put a foot wrong in the game, and came up with several pin-point tackles to break up what could have been potentially dangerous counter attacks. Defenders are rarely recognised in the modern game, however KKZ is different. Every player counts, and the ones who play with their guts out will be recognised.

Update for 8th Sep

The 4-2 victory against the Manjans was a morale booster for KKZ but would the inroads gained in the game be lost or would they continue in their winning vein. Well on 8th Sep, when they hosted another unnamed Manjan team, they had to wait for nearly 30 mins to get their answer, for the opponents were late. For once, it felt good to be early and kitted up. When interviewed, a few senior players mentioned that the new discipline and high morale in the team is a refreshing change to help realise the team's potential. How right they were, for when KKZ eventually took to the pitch, they had comprehensively overwhelmed their opponents to go into the half-time break with a 4-0 lead.

Up and coming young striker Sasi, gave KKZ the lead when he latched onto a long clearance from the KKZ defence and held off the opponent defenders before lashing a shot that was too good for the keeper to stop. The lead gave KKZ the cue to roam around the pitch with panache and it wasn't too long before the lead was doubled. Anand Spaceship would play the first of his three assists, - a brilliantly crafted through ball that would find the feet of player-manager Haresh. But there was still a lot more to be done, which Haresh duly obliged. He sold the keeper a shimmy before rounding him with ease and tapped the ball coolly into the open net. Advantage KKZ.

The 2-goal deficit, however motivated the opponents who quietly began creeping back into the game. They strung together a few good passes and began enjoying far more possession. However the brave KKZ defence, and defensive midfielders were calm and composed to withstand the attacks.

Against the run of play, Anand Spaceship squared the ball to Barathi just outside the box. Barathi looked up at the keeper, and realising that he had acres of space, let out a speculative shot that looped the keeper and ended up in the back of the net. 3-0 KKZ and one more to come.

The architect of the fourth goal was once again Anand Spaceship, who lifted the ball past the opponents' defence. Haresh who timed his run to beat the offside trap, chipped the ball pass the oncoming keeper to score his second goal of the game, and KKZ went into the half-time carrying a 4-0 lead.

However, talks of improving the play and adding onto the lead apparently fell into deaf ears. Complacency on the KKZ side and a renewed vigour by the opponents saw them snatching back a consolation. However, credit must be given to keeper Manjo who managed to pull off a couple of point-blank saves, including one from a female player of the opponents.

Overall, it was a satisfying game for Kamikaze, though, more must be done to ensure focus over the course of the 90 minutes. Complacency has to be rooted out. And KKZ can go a long way. On a side note, as the choice for the man of the match was not clear on that day, i will use my editor's discretion and name Anand Spaceship as the man of the match, on the basis of his 3 assists and overall industrious play. (I seriously hope this doesn't backfire on me. It was an honest assessment)

Kamikaze Vs Manjans

KKZ 4 Manjans 2
1st sep 2007

Goals: Naayee Gerard Ghazali Vinnie
Assists: Habib(1)

After a poor display to vedi fc at wilfrid, the question was "Can KKZ sting ever again?" Yes they did and boy did the leave a mark! The Team talk Haresh gave at the end of Vedi FC match really hit everyone deep down and not only inspired them, but also motivated them. Habib Filled in goal for the unavailable Manjo and Geevan and pretty much did not have anything to do although he playfully let in a goal to somewhat give the opponents something to look back on in this otherwise fiery clash. Kamikaze was raring to go and opened the account after "El Flambouyant" Nayee, picking up a loose ball poked it past the oncoming keeper and it was rolling into goal when a defender's futile attempt to clear it resulted in an own goal. Nevertheless he gets the Goal. Kkz attacked wave after wave and had many shots on target. Midfield Maestro Jay kept sweeping in Corners and freekicks and had 4 or 5 shots whizzing past the opponent goalbox. The midfield was totally Dominant and the Defence hardly put a wrong foot in the game. POW Francis did his job to perfection while Prem acted as a wall of steel for the goalie. The second of the game came from a very unusual scorer. Alex, took a shot and it rebounded of the post and eventually dipped into the path of KKZ's very own young and cultured talent Vinnie and he hammered it in beautifully with a half volley. After much domination the half ended only to begin the 2nd half with another wonderful goal. Ghazali had a pop at goal with a freekick that rattled the post 15yrds out and Midfield Anchor Gerrard was there as he always was to slam it home 5 yrd out. Good positioning shown and dedicated it to Nash. Gerard replaced Habib in goal and let in a misjudged cross oni to give the opponent a free header. Score 3-2. Kamikaze enjoyed domination all over the park and only fell short to the physical aspects here and there. Finally Wonderkid Ghazali wrapped up the game when Habib, showing immediate effect played a through ball in the centre of the defence thus flatfooting all the defenders at one go. The opponents watched on as Ghazali took it first time and drilled home the finish touch to this excellent match. Good possession, attitude and teamwork helped us nail this one. Gerard took the MOM as he was a prominent figure and played above par to displace the opponent attack.
Most of our guys performed well notably Haravin Faizal Alex Francis and Prem.

KKZ Vs Vedi FC

KKZ 2 Vedi FC 3

25th Aug 2007

Goals: Barathi Haresh
Assists: Haresh Barathi
MOM: Nash

The match was played at wilfird on a hot saturday afternoon and we adapted the formation 3-6-1 and it was really a tough and close encounter which could and should have gone in favour of our side. We were losing 2-0 when Explosive wingback Barathi came on for Vinnie and slotted home a cool finish latching on to a Haresh through ball. Although the game was a warfield in the centre of the park, we failed to keep possession and faced an injury blow when Defense Juggernaut Nash was stretchered out with a dislocated shoulder after a malicious tackle. Midfielders switched off , passing was below par and "Captain Fantastic" Achu couldnt orchestrate the midfield as he was playing in cover for the absent Jayraj. After getting down 3-1, a moment of inspiration came when Haresh skinned 3 opponent defenders before slotting the ball pass the keeper's outstretched arms in "messi fashion". But even then we did not show motivation after 3-2 and refused to get our noses in front until the game ended. Haresh later blasted the whole team in the post-team talk stating that he never wants to see that attitude ever again on the pitch. To say, it wasn't really our fault for the 1st and 3rd goal as the referee was showing his inability to official the game. The other 2 was ours to regret. There are lots of mistakes in this one, nothing formation wise but purely a questionable lack of passion between us. I hope we dont see that again and really looking to rekindle the KKZ spirit again. Nash won the MOM for the bravery and performance he displayed.
